1. ISME SECRETARY GENERAL POST

The ISME Board of Directors is in the process of recruiting a Secretary General, following the retirement of Judy Thönell in July 2012. The advertisement for the post of ISME Secretary General is on the ISME Website, as is the post description (See Post card No. 150). The deadline for applications is 2 November 2012. The Board wishes to encourage members to spread the call through their various networks.

 

2. ISME GIBSON AWARD NEWS

In 2008, the ISME-Gibson Community Music Award was allocated to Ros Dunlop and her group during the 28th ISME World Conference in Bologna. We are proud to inform ISME members that this award continues to bear fruit. Now available is the first book about the traditional music of East Timor, Sounds of the Soul by Ros Dunlop, an output of the ISME funded project. Written for Timorese & English readers, the book includes CD & DVD, and will appeal to those interested in the traditional culture of Timor, particularly its music, and the visual splendour of the country.

3. ISME REGIONAL CONFERENCES

ISME Asia Pacific Regional Conference, Singapore 17-19 July 2013
The 9th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Music Education Research (APSMER) will be held in Singapore from 17th-19th July, 2013

ISME European Regional Conference, Leuven, Belgium 13-16 February 2013
The European Association for Music in Schools, EAS, hosts the 21st European Association for Music in Schools/ISME European Regional Conference 2013 in Lemmensinstituut, Leuven, Belgium.
The theme for this conference is The Reflective Music Teacher.
Submission deadline is 15th October 2012.

ISME Pan African Regional Conference, Kampala, Uganda 29 July-1 August 2013

Uganda Society for Musical Arts Education (USMAE) and Makerere University, Kampala (MUK) will host this conference in beautiful Kampala, the capital City of Uganda, a country known as the ‘pearl of Africa’ for her beauty.
Under the theme: Inter-cultural Approaches to Musical Arts Education in Contemporary Africa, proposals are invited for paper presentations, posters, symposia and workshops.

Submit a 250-word abstract to benkigozi@rocketmail.com or pasmae2013@rocketmail.com not later than 31st December 2012.
Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision via email by 28th February 2013.
