The CMEA/ACEM offers annual awards in two categories – Professional Awards & Excellence Awards. Recipients of Professional awards must be members in good standing.
Recipients of Excellence awards can be individuals or groups and do not have to be CMEA/ACEM members. The CMEA/ACEM Vice President will receive nominations from provincial and territorial affiliates. Award nominations must be received by September 15 in order to have awards ready for distribution at the in person full board meetings in October.
Recipients will be recognized through the CMEA/ACEM website, newsletter and/or journal. Provincial/Territorial affiliates will also recognize their winners through their website, & newsletter/journal.
Where possible a CMEA/ACEM representative will present the award(s) at the next provincial/territorial conference. If no representative is available the award may be presented by the president of the nominating affiliate
Awards nominations can be accepted in the following categories:
- Builders Award
- Builders Award for Newer Teachers
Recognizes those who advance music education in any Canadian province through building community and/or collaborative efforts. There are two categories for this award Builders Award & Builders Award for Newer Teachers (5 years maximum teaching experience)
- Jubilate Award of Merit
Given to an individual, group, organization etc. in recognition of outstanding contributions to music education
- Honourary Life Membership
Recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to music education
- Excellence in Innovation
Celebrates the unique ways music educators’ innovative practice influences Music Education in Canada.
- Excellence in Collaboration
Celebrates collaborative processes engaging educators & organizations within and outside the formal school community.
- Excellence in Leadership
Celebrates the work of exemplary leaders within the field of music education.
Award nominations will be accepted until September 15, 2026.
