President’s Message:

Hello CMEA!

I’m not really sure where to begin with this message other than to say, breathe…
The world has changed on a dime for us all and as we stride into the unknown with cancelled lessons, classes and the possibility of alternate program delivery, we first need to stop, and breathe.  We are all in this together and we will make it through, although it may not seem like it at the moment.

As ensemble-based educators, many of us find social distancing and isolation difficult, me included.  I want to spend time making music, singing and conversing with my peers and my students.  Now is the time for us to use those sparks of creativity that often don’t get fanned because of lack of time, to ignite something new.  All of those neat apps that people use and you have said, “I should try that one day…” Now is the time my friends, and for the record, they are lots of fun! Playing your guitar on your balcony and hoping the neighbours will join in (there are so many closet tambourine players out there), just do it and see what happens.  Join in on the many virtual kitchen parties dotting Facebook.

Stay safe, stay healthy and keep making music!

Together we are stronger.

Donalda Westcott,
CMEA President
