The winner of the 2016 Pat Shand Essay Contest on Canadian Music in Education is Sandie Heckel of Western University. The title of her essay is Soundscapes: Using Informal Learning Pedagogy to Create a Canadian strand of Musical Futures. Ms. Heckel will receive a cash prize for her essay and it will be published in a forthcoming issue of Canadian Music Educator.
