1. MUZED accepted as INA

MUZED a Turkish Music Education Society and an ISME Group Member, was officially accepted for ISME National Affiliate (INA) status during the Board meeting held in conjunction with the 30th ISME World Conference in Thessaloniki, Greece. ISME congratulates MUZED on this achievement, and extends a hand of welcome to the society and its members.

MUZED is a professional association that gathers the turkish music educators from all over the country, with the aim of providing professional, democratic, cultural and economic support to music educators. It also aims to develop and enhance music education in Turkey.

Founded in 05/02/1999, MUZED organizes a general assembly meeting biennially, and has its offices at Bayındır 2 Sokak Isık Apt. 4. Kat No: 68/18 K ız ılay- ANKARA/ TÜRKİYE. MUZED’s activities incude government lobbying, organising training, workshops, conferences, concerts and music education awards. MUZED has collaborated with institutes in arts and culture to form the Public Arts and Culture Platform. MUZED can be contacted on www.muzed.org.tr; e-mail: bilgi@muzed.org.tr.

2. ISME Regional Conferences Information

Every odd numbered year, ISME’s affiliated organisations host music education conferences in regions that have common interest or characteristics, including language or cultural attributes, but not limited to geographic proximity. In 2013, ISME Regional Conferences planned thus far are as follows:

ISME European Regional Conference, Leuven, Belgium 13-16 February
ISME Asia Pacific Regional Conference, Singapore 17-19 July
ISME Pan African Regional Conference, Kampala, Uganda 29 July-2 August

3. ISME Secretary General

Following the retirement of ISME’s long-standing Secretary General Judy Thönell effective July 21, 2012, ISME will be advertising the post in the near future. Further information on the application process and the Position Description will be available shortly on the ISME website.

4. Cultural Encounters and Northern Reflections – WAAE 2012 World Summit

Early bird registrations for the 2012 world summit of the World Alliance of Arts Educators close on September 21, 2012.

The summit is hosted by the University of Lapland and will take place in Roveniemi, Lapland from November 7-10, 2012.

5. Orff-Schulwerk information

The Orff-Schulwerk Informationen is a bi-annual, bilingual (German / English) magazine concerning Music and Dance Education (Orff-Schulwerk) published by the Carl Orff Institute for Elemental Music and Dance Education, Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg. The purpose of the magazine is to inform graduates and other interested colleagues about new developments and experiences in the area of Elemental Music and Dance Education as well as current activities at the Carl Orff-Institute and the Orff-Schulwerk Forum. It also offers a platform for reports of all international Orff-Schulwerk Associations, reviews new publications and provides information about courses in various countries.

6. Calls for papers

The 8th International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education, Hamar, Norway,
June 16-19, 2013
Deadline for proposals: January 15, 2013. The conference will be held at Hedmark University College, Campus Hamar, located in Eastern Norway. The conference website will be available in November 2012, with further information about accommodation and symposium programme.

Music Learning Live Asia Conference, Singapore,
October 2013

MERYC Conference 2013– The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
July 17-20, 2013
The European Network for Music Educators and Researchers of Young Children (EuNet MERYC) sends the ‘Call for Papers’ for the 6th MERYC Conference. The conference is preceded by a research introduction course designed for early childhood music professionals on Tuesday, July 16 July 2013.
