BUSMEA (Brandon University Student Music Educators Association) is an organization made up of music education students serving music education students. Our goal is to offer professional development opportunities to our members through workshops and other related events.
The Brandon University Student Music Educators Association is pleased to announce the 11th Annual Da Capo Conference. The Da Capo Conference is an all-day workshop of professional development opportunities for music educators. This year it will be held on January 21, 2017 at the Brandon University School of Music.
The keynote speaker for Da Capo will be Kevin Doell. Kevin is principal of Springfield Middle School and music consultant for Sunrise School Division. He was instrumental in starting the music program in Dauphin and since then has also taught at Springfield. This is Kevin’s 11th consecutive Da Capo Conference as a presenter and we are overjoyed to have him with us once again.
Other confirmed presenters include ethnomusicologist Dr. Parmela Attariwala, Winnipeg band teacher and double bass instructor Steve Hamilton, and Brandon University professor Dr. Wendy McCallum. Music educators Anna Penno, Deanna Ginn, John Chiupka, and Sandra Town will share some of Brandon’s wealth of music education expertise. Also joining Da Capo is Orff presenter Lisa Campbell and renowned middle school band teacher Marissa Hirsch.
Session topics include women in jazz music, building a choral program, music program administration, teaching middle school band, two elementary music sessions, conducting fundamentals, recruitment and retention, jazz rehearsal techniques, and an ethnomusicology session.
